It is a form of talk therapy where two or more parties communicate (i.e. with therapist) to find relief from emotional distress, seek solutions to problem and improve skills for self-development (APA, 2017).

Telepsychology refers to the use of telecommunication (i.e .inclusive of the use of telephone, mobile devices, interactive videoconferencing, email, chat, text, and Internet) in providing psychotherapy services.

For individual therapy, the duration may range from 45 minutes to 2 hours per session (i.e. especially for the first session). For group therapy, the duration may range from 60 minutes to 90 minutes per session. For psychological assessment, the duration may range from 10 minutes to 3 hours per session.

Seeking for psychotherapy session is just like setting an appointment for regular health check-up with your doctor. Alternatively, these signs may help you to decide:

  • feeling overwhelmed, prolonged sense of hopelessness and sadness
  • unresolved problems despite numerous attempts and help from people around you
  • having difficulty in focusing on your day-to-day activities
  • worry excessively, expect the worst, or are constantly on edge

During the first session, client will be asked to fill up the necessary form inclusive of personal details and informed consent. The therapist will explain all the procedures involve before the session start. The client is advisable to ask question pertaining to the session and process involved. Following that, therapist will conduct a comprehensive interview with the client to learn more about his/her concern. This may take up to 90 minutes. Screening tool may be administered to the client if needed. All information shared with the therapist is being kept confidential.

Psychological Screening :

  • may be administered as part of a routine clinical visit
  • is neither definitively diagnostic nor a definitive indication of a specific condition or disorder
  • is used for the early identification of individuals at potentially high risk for a specific condition or disorder
  • may be administered by clinicians, support staff with appropriate training, an electronic device (such as a computer), or self‐administered

Psychological Assessment:

  • provides a more complete clinical picture of an individual
  • can aid diagnosis and/or treatment planning in a culturally competent manner
  • may use screening results to determine the choice of instruments for an assessment
  • can identify psychological problems and conditions, indicate their severity, and provide treatment recommendations
  • may include screening measures that are used in conjunction with other information from the assessment, providing a broader context for interpreting the results
